Today's current globalized high stakes society calls for us to do progressively more. It requires us to produce better and better returns.
The reason why this is problematic is that we aren’t only required to deliver more, but everything we deliver needs to be of an even better quality.
If you are to be able to deliver more you can either spend a longer time or maybe you can begin learning time management skills and improve your productivity.
Either way gets results, however, there is a limit to the time you can work, all things considered you just have 24 hours/day.
The Way I Doubled My Efficiency
A few years back I was granted the opportunity to start a brand new office for my employer.
I went from a regular supervisor role to being in charge of advertising, marketing, hiring, sales and all of the fun administrational duties associated with it.
I understand what you're thinking, delegate!
The challenge was that there was no one to outsource to, I was alone at my office.
Everything was my responsibility;
Sure, as we grew I'd have the possibility to start delegating, but when I began I needed to carry out the whole thing myself.
I started working my regular 8-17 but realised I just couldn’t keep up. I had no choice but to be at the office later and later, eventually I worked from seven thirty too ten each day (On saturdays and sundays is was enough with nine to five).
This was definitely not sustainable and I understood I needed to do something.
I talked to my employers but the only thing they could do was offer some advice on how to speed up, I spoke with my buddies who told me to give up.
Luckily I got guidance from one of my clients to start reading time management.
I read courses from Stephen Covey, Brian Tracy and David Allen, among others. Suddenly I was caught up. I started delivering improved results. I could start coming home earlier and earlier, in the beginning 9 pm then 8 pm, 7 and then finally at 5 pm like my friends.
The techniques below are the ones that rescued me. You could be using a couple currently, however, if you are not using them all, test them out and you should start to see a difference in what you can produce.
Plan Your Weeks
Start by listing whatever you are aware of will have to be carried out throughout the week (this list can be saved, given that the common week looks nearly identical), I then plan it out.
What do I do Monday, what Tuesday and so forth.
I have got a standard plan for what I do each day and may from there arrange it to make me be as productive as is possible.
The ABC Method - Organizing Your Days
Prioritization is the most important part of time management. Picking out your most critical job and staying with it till it's completely finished will save you lots and lots of time.
There are 5 forms of tasks (in order of priority).
A - Jobs with significant long-term consequences.
They are projects that, if done, are going to have a big impact on your long term success.
B - Tasks with moderate long-term consequences
C - Minor long term consequences
D - Tasks that might be assigned to other people.
E - Tasks that should be eradicated.
They may even have a adverse effect on your future if done.
Prioritize at the start of the day
Every morning go through the tasks you've planned for the day and assign them a letter.
In case you have several of the same letter call them A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2 et cetera.
Focus on your most vital task and work down the list
Conclusion
By using these 2 simple techniques your days will certainly be a lot more productive and you will be capable of producing more and more each day. You can expect to deliver better results which helps you progress forward rapidly in your career.
